This powerful message confronts us with one of the most sobering parables Jesus ever told—the story of the ten bridesmaids from Matthew 25. Half were wise, half were foolish, and the difference wasn't in their appearance but in their preparation. All ten had lamps representing outward Christianity, but only five had oil—the intimate relationship with God that sustains us when the bridegroom arrives. The oil represents our prayer life, our worship, our time soaking in God's presence, and our personal walk with the Holy Spirit. We cannot borrow oil from others; we cannot ride on our spouse's faith or our pastor's prayers. When we stand before Jesus, it will be face-to-face, and the question will be simple: did we have oil in our lamp? This isn't about works or earning salvation—it's about the evidence of a living, breathing relationship with God that goes beyond Sunday morning attendance. The warning is clear: many will say 'Lord, Lord' but hear 'I never knew you.' The difference between the wise and foolish isn't intelligence—it's spiritual alertness versus spiritual dullness. Are we so consumed with distractions, even good things, that we've neglected to buy oil? The beautiful truth is that while we're still breathing, we have time to fill our lamps. God's warnings are love letters, calling us to check our spiritual dipstick and ensure we're not running on empty.
