Beyond the Church Walls - Bluffton Service

What does it really mean to follow Jesus into the messy, uncomfortable, and inconvenient corners of the world? In this powerful message, we are challenged to examine whether our faith has become too comfortable, too insular, and too focused on ourselves. Drawing from Mark chapter 2, we see Jesus deliberately walking toward a tax collector named Levi, a man considered social scum by the religious establishment of his day. Jesus did not wait for Levi to clean himself up, attend a service, or meet a spiritual checklist. He simply said follow me, and that was enough. The profound truth here is that Jesus was not influenced by the company he kept. He was the influence. This raises a piercing question for each of us: are we living in such a way that the people around us, the ones who do not yet know God, can see something worth following? Salt preserves and flavors. Light exposes and guides. We are told we already are both of these things the moment we surrender our lives to Christ. The challenge is not to become salt and light but to stop hiding what we already are. As we reflect on this message, we are invited to shift our gaze outward, to pray boldly for divine appointments, and to trust that the same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead is alive and active within us, more than capable of reaching even the most unlikely person through our willingness to simply show up.
