Faith Requires Action - Bluffton Service

Mar 15, 2026    Pastor Scott Ochsner

This powerful message challenges us to move beyond mere belief into active, living faith. Drawing from Hebrews 12 and James 2, we're reminded that our Christian walk isn't about passive church attendance or empty words—it's about running our race with determination and purpose. The central truth here cuts deep: faith without action is dead. We can't simply say we trust God while sitting idle. The sermon uses a compelling real-life example of recovery from a severe leg injury to illustrate this principle. Just as physical healing required not only prayer but also painful therapy, daily exercises, and disciplined commitment, our spiritual growth demands the same intentionality. We must add good works to our faith, remove distractions from our lives, and stay focused on Jesus from start to finish. The message also confronts our tendency toward lukewarm Christianity—that comfortable middle ground that actually makes God sick. We're called to be hot, passionate, and fully committed. This isn't about perfection; it's about direction. Have we left the starting blocks? Are we running toward the finish line? God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him, but that seeking requires both subtraction (removing hindrances) and addition (incorporating spiritual disciplines and actions that demonstrate our faith). The question isn't whether we believe God exists—even demons believe that. The question is: does our life show it?
